Passing through areas where iconic shaggy Highland cows often wander close to the road.

"The best thing about a picture is that it never changes, even when the people in it do."

- Andy Warhol

A scenic waterfall flows through a dark limestone cave with dramatic lighting illuminating the rocky formations.

Smoo Cave is a large natural cave on the north-west coast of Scotland, just east of the village of Durness in Sutherland, within the area known as the North West Highlands

Uniquely in the UK, Smoo Cave is both a sea-carved cave and a freshwater cave — the outer chamber was formed by the action of the sea against limestone cliffs, while the inner chambers have been shaped over millennia by a stream called Allt Smoo.

Dramatic panoramic view of snow-capped mountains and rugged terrain at sunset with golden light illuminating rocky landscape.

Glencoe is Scotland’s most dramatic valley — a towering, misty landscape of sharp peaks, deep glens, and raw Highland atmosphere. The famous Three Sisters guard the road like giant stone sentinels, while Buachaille Etive Mòr rises like a pyramid at the glen’s entrance.

Beautiful, haunting, and fiercely wild, Glencoe hits you the moment you arrive — a place where history echoes and the scenery feels almost otherworldly. No NC500 would be complete with a visit to Glencoe

Panoramic view of pristine white sand beaches and turquoise waters along a rugged coastal landscape under blue skies.

Balnakeil Beach is one of the most striking beaches in the far north of Scotland A wide sweep of white sand, turquoise water, and rolling dune systems that feel almost otherworldly. Just a short drive from Durness, it’s a place where the landscape suddenly opens up into calm, bright coastal beauty surrounded by wild Highland scenery.

DAY 1

Travel north to Glencoe, stopping at Coe River Waterfall and Glencoe Viewpoint for some photography opportunities. After taking in the sights, we continue to our campsite: Glencoe Camping & Caravan Club. Once settled in, anyone staying on site can meet up for a complimentary beer while we discuss the day's events and what lies ahead.

DAY 2

Enjoy a complimentary breakfast before packing up to head north to the Ullapool area. We will stop at Urquhart Castle for some portrait photography. Model Eva Stocks will be our model, dressed in a fair maiden outfit fitting for the castle. After about an hour of creating portfolio-worthy images, we will continue to Badrallach Campsite. Once settled, we will explore the local area to find the perfect spot for a sunset shoot.

DAY 3

Starts with breakfast before continuing north to Scourie. Along the way, we will make a few stops, including Ardvreck Castle and Allt Chranaidh Waterfall, both stunning locations. Scourie Campsite is a lovely site with a local spa and on-site food facilities. The site sits on the banks of a loch, offering a beautiful backdrop for another sunset shoot.

DAY 4

We will stay at this site for another evening; however, that won’t stop us from further exploring. Today promises to be memorable. We will visit Balnakeil Beach, Durness Beach, Smoo Cave, and perhaps Ceannabeinne Beach. Eva will be busy with multiple shoots on these picturesque beaches. After a long day, we will return to the campsite.

DAY 5

Today, we leave the stunning West Coast and embark on the spectacular drive to the East Coast, arriving at Windhaven Campsite. We will visit Dunnet Beach, Dunnet Head with its magnificent lighthouse, and undertake a short walk to admire the Sea Stacks. During our journey from West to East, we will have plenty of opportunities to stop at various locations.

DAY 6

Heading south, we will stop at John O'Groats, famous for its iconic signpost, dramatic views toward the Orkney Islands, and the feeling of standing at the edge of the map. Nearby, rugged cliffs, wildlife-rich waters, and some of the most scenic coastline along the NC500 await. If you fancy a tipple, the 8 Doors Distillery is worth a visit. As we continue south, the scenery remains breathtaking, and we might make a few more stops en route to Loch Ness and our final campsite – Camping Pod heaven.

DAY 7

Our final breakfast together marks the end of a wonderful journey filled with sightseeing, photography, fun, and laughter.
